Introduction to Casualformalism

Casualformalism is an artistic approach that emphasizes the dialogue between art and humanity. In this movement, the art object itself is of secondary importance. Instead, the focus is on using art as a conduit to connect with people, fostering discussion and understanding that transcend isolated pursuits. The true aim of Casualformalism is to help individuals find their freedom while bridging societal gaps—whether it be the segregation of thought and aesthetics or the divide between the elite and the underprivileged.

Empowerment and Perspective

Through Casualformalism, art becomes a powerful tool to empower audiences by illuminating how their perspectives shape the world. Though artworks may resemble social commentary, their deeper purpose is to underscore that individual viewpoints mould society. Recognizing this, we transition from being victims to becoming active participants in the power structure. Thus, Casualformalism strives to reach a broad audience, permeating traditional and non-traditional art markets.

Anecdotes and Examples

Casualformalism humorously delves into the concept of procrastination within the artistic process. One notable project involved renting a decrepit property in Venice Beach and converting it into the IPNT Gallery (I Prefer Not To Gallery). This venue functioned both as a gallery and a social experiment, where patrons were integral components of the art itself.

The IPNT Gallery showcased pieces created with "Doost," a retro-reflective dust made from glass and pigments. These works came to life through the application of light, such as flash photography. Visitors were encouraged to interact with the art using their cameras and cell phones, capturing reflective images unique to each individual. This interactive engagement fostered connections among patrons and prompted them to actively engage with the artwork. The entire experience was meticulously documented through video and photography.

Influences on Casualformalism

Casualformalism draws substantial inspiration from artists such as Josef Albers and Neo Rauch. Albers is celebrated for his explorations of color and form, while Rauch is renowned for his large, complex paintings that weave seemingly disparate narrative threads into cohesive yet enigmatic scenes. Rauch's fusion of futuristic and historical imagery profoundly shapes the Casualformalist ethos, blending diverse temporalities and styles to create parallel worlds.

Conveying Messages through Casualformalism

With a touch of humor, Casualformalism conveys a profound message about life and mortality: "Love living and dying." This philosophy encourages an embrace of the full spectrum of human experience, from joy to sorrow, fostering a deeper appreciation for the present moment.

Final Thoughts

Casualformalism transcends the realm of artistic movement, advocating a way of perceiving and interacting with the world. It invites everyone to participate, share their unique perspectives, and recognize their inherent power in shaping society. Through humor, dialogue, and interaction, Casualformalism seeks to create a more connected and enlightened human experience.
